Reivew: Complete EducationBy Beverley Paine, Oct 2017 Thinking of homeschooling but daunted by the idea of needing to put together a curriculum for your child? The team of qualified and experienced teachers and home educators at Complete Education completely understand - together they've put together what many families are finding is an excellent way to build confidence and get 'the hang' of homeschooling in the first year. Based on the National Curriculum, Complete Education offers a reasonably balanced structured home learning program for primary school aged children. Parents report that the friendly team at Complete Education are quick to respond to inquiries and are happy to help tailor a program to suit their individual needs. Free trials offer families the opportunity to see if it is a good fit for their family before buying a school term's structured learning program in whatever grade level is required. The cost is not prohibitive - well within range for most families. Discounts are available for multiple purchases for families with more than one child. Described by users as hands-on, play-based and fun, and full of different learning ideas and opportunities, the program can be worked through at a pace to suit the child's needs. Organised by subject, the program sets out what resources you will need, lesson guides, and includes printable material for each week. Complete Education suggests ways to structure and individualise the program. They have teachers ready to answer any questions that arise, keen to help parents feel confident and supported in delivering the program. Parent Assessment Checklists are provided, to help ensure the child has a good grasp of the content and outcomes required. 'Work samples' help build a portfolio of work that can be used as part of the registration review process. All parents have to do is print the program, which comes as a pdf, and collate and organise the resources required. One parent, Karen, said, "I have relaxed so much because the work of preparing my children's learning is all done for me - it's great to wake up in the morning and have it all there, ready to follow." Most families plan on using it until they feel more confident to write their own curriculum. They love that it is straightforward with a variety of tasks, and that it is easy to complement the lessons with other activities. Some families used the program as a guide only. Others cited that it helped them to feel that they were on the 'right track' with home educating their children, and gave them 'confidence with keeping records and track of outcomes'. Complete Education comes with subscriptions to online learning platforms, Skwirk, Mathletics and Literacy Planet. It is a structured school-based way of presenting learning, and families who prefer a more project oriented or unit study way of learning, where subjects are integrated and presented as topics or themes, or based on personal interests, may not find it suitable for them. Using Complete Education is a great way to start your home educating journey if you are feeling insecure and need a bit of help and guidance for those early months and years, or need to convince other family members that you know what you are doing! It will help you 'find your feet' and build your confidence as an educating parent.

and Learning without School! We began educating our children in 1985, when our eldest was five. In truth, we had helped them learn what they need to learn since they were born. I am a passionate advocate of allowing children to learn unhindered by unnecessary stress and competition, meeting developmental needs in ways that suit their individual learning styles and preferences. Ours was a homeschooling, unschooling and natural learning family! There are hundreds of articles on this site to help you build confidence as a home educating family. We hope that your home educating adventure is as satisfying as ours was! Beverley Paine
