Give your Homeschool the Bible Centred Edge! by Lina Homeschooling around the Bible is now easy .Sing your way through Karen’s easy to learn Scripture songs using either songbooks or CDs. Karen has written music to many favourite passages of Scripture. The music is written at about a grade 2 piano level, so you don’t have to be a concert pianist to play them. Melodies are easy to sing. Passages are taken straight from the King James Version. Selections include The Beatitudes, the Ten Commandments, Isaiah 53, Psalm 121, Luke 4:1-12 and many others. Songbook titles include Living Waters which has many short easy passages including Psalm 34:1-8. All We Like Sheep is the biggest book at 49 pages and is the only one with all of Matthew 2 in one song! There are 3 volumes of A Walk with Jesus which take you through the life of Christ. Volume 2 of these has one of my favourites which is the scene of Jesus in Gethsemane. Karen’s rendering of the verses in Matthew 26 is sublime and inspired. Another we have sung frequently are the verses of Jesus in Pilates’ judgement hall. Reality of Faith is the most recent of Karen’s songbooks and it does have some quotes from a favourite religious author of Karen’s. One of these is “Worry is blind”. Scripture selections from Reality include well known passages such Philippians 4:13, 19, 20. For those that can’t play the piano, each songbook has been made into a CD which you can sing a long with .Songbooks are $12 each and CDs are $15 each. Postage must be added unless you are purchasing from stock at one of our workshops. To order these you may email Bethany at bethanytt@gmail.com and please make out cheques to Bethany Turner. Bible curriculum commencing with Genesis for third graders is available for homeschoolers and families from Bethany Turner of The Homeschooledge. This series will take from Genesis (Grade 3) to Revelation (grade 8). We were delighted to discover this curriculum which was written in the 1920’s and we use it in our homeschool. The title for the third grade text is When the Earth Was Young. Each lesson is composed of a passage to read just over a page to read with discussion questions after the reading .There is an accompanying work which is optional. Price of this is $25.The grade 4 book is From Egypt to Cannan but don’t be fooled by the grade level .This text covers the Tabernacle, the feasts as well as the stories of the wilderness wonderings .The accompanying workbook has lots of colouring in, fill in the blank activities, map work and more. Grade 5 is called Last of Old Testament Times and covers prophets, judges and kings .The text at this level is made up of lessons which commence with Scripture to read from child’s own Bible, study questions, words to master, memory verse and notes. Typically a lesson will have between 12 and 20 questions to which the answers are found in the Scripture indicated at the beginning of the lesson. The workbook is more challenging than the previous ones. Grade 6 is The Life of Jesus is one of the largest texts in this series with 390 A4 size pages. Format is similar to previous grade. We like to use the words to master as spelling lists. Grade 7 is in two volumes which are entitles The Gospel to All the World. These Grade 8 is called God’s Great Plan and is an overview of the entire plan of salvation, going into greater depth than previously. Chapter 4 of 21 lessons takes the student through the book of Daniel. Chapters 7 to 13 work through the book of Revelation. Anyone who works through this Bible curriculum should gain a thorough knowledge of the Scriptures. To order ,email Bethany at bethanytt@gmail.com stating which you are interested in and she can give you prices and what postage will cost. These books are not light (in content or weight). Please note there is no repetition so grade levels are suggestive only. Our whole family is working through grade 4 together, besides what the children do for schoolwork. Grades 6, 7 and 8 also have workbooks. These are not mandatory but are excellent for consolidating what is being learnt. My children enjoy them. Was this article helpful? Was it worth $1.00 to you? and Learning without School! We began educating our children in 1985, when our eldest was five. In truth, we had helped them learn what they need to learn since they were born. I am a passionate advocate of allowing children to learn unhindered by unnecessary stress and competition, meeting developmental needs in ways that suit their individual learning styles and preferences. Ours was a homeschooling, unschooling and natural learning family! There are hundreds of articles on this site to help you build confidence as a home educating family. We hope that your home educating adventure is as satisfying as ours was! Beverley Paine
