English: a checklist of texts and contexts
The way I've used lists such as this in the past is to remind me of the many different ways my children interact with English in their everyday life, as well as to prompt ideas for encouraging new skills and abilities, or different ways they could present or find information.
It's not resticted to any particular age, or arranged in year levels, because in an immersive educational environment we're aware that our children engage with many different ways we humans communicate at their level of understanding and comprehension. Although they may not understand something today, or not recognise the form or presentation of a text, or comprehend the context, little by little they are piecing together a picture of the complexity of human communication, and slowly building confidence as communicators.

We began educating our children in 1985, when our eldest was five. In truth, we had helped them learn what they need to learn since they were born. I am a passionate advocate of allowing children to learn unhindered by unnecessary stress and competition, meeting developmental needs in ways that suit their individual learning styles and preferences. Home education is a legal alternative
to school education in Australia.
State and Territory governments are responsible
for regulating home education and have different
requirements, however home educating families
are able to develop curriculum and learning programs
to suit the individual needs of their children.
