Marble Target Rules
A game for four players. by Thomas Paine, 11years
How to play:
- Each player gets 10 marbles, and they shall place their marbles next to their square in each corner.
- Some one has to record the scores.
- Blue starts by putting one marble anywhere in the blue square and flicking that marble carefully, trying to get the highest score. Yellow does the same, followed by purple, and then red. Play continues.
- The object of the game is to hit other marbles to increase your score, by knocking them into higher circles.
How to score:
- When you hit a marble into a circle you record the points in that circle.
How to get a higher score:
- To get a higher score you can hit somebody else’s marble and you get the score of where that marble lands plus your own marble. If you hit two marbles you get both those marbles score plus your own. If you hit three marbles you only get to score one marble that you hit, plus your own, so you have to pick which one will make the best score for you. And if you hit four marbles you have to pick only two marbles out of the four, plus your own to make your score. If you hit five marbles you are very lucky, you can have them all!
- You can only score extra points when your marble hits another marble. If a marble your marble hits then hits another marble this second marble is not scored.
- If you hit the clear marble in the middle, then you get an extra one hundred points added on to your score. The clear marble is worth one hundred points no matter where it lands, but only one player can only score the bonus points in any one game. Then it reverts back to a normal marble and scores the number of points wherever it lands if it is hit again. You must remember to add the score of where your own marble lands too.
- The winner is the person with the highest score when all marbles are played.

Board Layout:
Set out the board as the following picture: now play!
How to make the game:
- Get 41 marbles, preferably 10 of four different colours and one which is small or different in some way to place in the middle.
- Find plain, preferably white, material or paper that is 38” tall by 38” wide.
- Get some indelible textas and draw accurate circles. Find the centre of the material and draw a circle with a radius of 2” around the middle point, and then one with a radius of 5”, then one with a radius of 9”, another one with a radius of 13”, and the last one with a radius of 18” as shown in the diagram above. The circles need to be labelled with 100, 50, 20, 10, 5 and the area outside of the circles with 1 (marbles landing outside the circle or of the board score 1 point.)
- Write the numbers as shown in the diagram on your paper or material.
Draw 2” square squares in each corner and colour them in different colours - blue, yellow, purple and red.

Welcome to the World of Home Education
and Learning without School!
We began educating our children in 1985, when our eldest was five. In truth, we had helped them learn what they need to learn since they were born. I am a passionate advocate of allowing children to learn unhindered by unnecessary stress and competition, meeting developmental needs in ways that suit their individual learning styles and preferences. Ours was a homeschooling, unschooling and natural learning family! There are hundreds of articles on this site to help you build confidence as a home educating family. We hope that your home educating adventure is as satisfying as ours was! Beverley Paine
