Education Perfect Ditches Homeschooling StudentsHome educators are angry at the sudden decision by Education Perfect to cease offering access to the popular learning platform to home educating students as from the end of this year. They feel betrayed by this move to exclude them. Many have included Education Perfect as a resource in their learning plans submitted as a requirement of their registration applications and renewals for 2024, and are now scrambling to find appropriate alternatives. At a time when many homeschools are winding down for the year, parents now find themselves needing to rethink their plans for the year ahead. Parents are venting their frustration and disappointment in the Education Perfect online group as well as in home ed support groups. Recently appointed CEO, Mr Morgan is quoted as saying "...working to improve education and make it more equitable for all is a natural next step for me. I'm honoured to join a team of people who share these values and can't wait to work alongside them to continue Education Perfect's global expansion and make a difference to all educators and learners." Despite this, Education Perfect believes it is okay to let down hundreds of happy and satisfied home educators and learners who have been using the platform, some since 2015. On their website the company said, "It's been a privilege to work with so many wonderful homeschooling families, however, we are unable to continue investing in the product & personnel support required to meet the unique needs of the community." They advise that students work history will be inaccessible from the platform as of 1st January 2024, and parents are advised to export it before that date. Refunds will be made available where applicable. The suddenness of the decision to withdraw the platform has home educating families stunned. Inquiries over the last week regarding recent changes to the website were attributed to website redevelopment, with reassurance provided that Education Perfect would still be providing homeschooling to families. Considerable annoyance has been expressed by families that the company were still signing up new enrolments only 24 hours before the announcement. Many have decided to cancel and get a refund for the rest of the year, disgusted by the way they've been treated by the company. Although parents are being reassured that their student's portfolios of past work can be downloaded, many are experiencing difficulty doing this and are worried that they will lose all of their homeschooling records. There is much speculation about the reasons behind the decision, including prepping of the company for a profitable sale and possible regulatory issues regarding operating as an unregistered distance education school. Many families are expressing scepticism at the reasons cited by Education Perfect, given that home education is currently the fastest growing education sector. Quite a few families have said that they would be happy to pay more to continue accessing the platform. By all accounts the platform is adamant it is closing its books on its home education clients. The Educating Parent has compiled a list of whole curriculum suppliers to help homeschooling families looking for alternatives. This is now included in the Resource Directory and will be updated regularly. Was this article helpful? Was it worth $1.00 to you? and Learning without School! We began educating our children in 1985, when our eldest was five. In truth, we had helped them learn what they need to learn since they were born. I am a passionate advocate of allowing children to learn unhindered by unnecessary stress and competition, meeting developmental needs in ways that suit their individual learning styles and preferences. Ours was a homeschooling, unschooling and natural learning family! There are hundreds of articles on this site to help you build confidence as a home educating family. We hope that your home educating adventure is as satisfying as ours was! Beverley Paine
