"Thank you... The information you supply is real and generous - fantastic reading. Your honesty is rare. Most books do not really explain 'how' as well as you do." Tracy

"A fabulous source of information and inspiration... providing wonderful, detailed information and resources." Faye

"Every time I read your writing it feels like a pat on the shoulder, and that feels really good...Thanks!" Maaike

Since 1989 Beverley Paine has steadfastly promoted and supported home education as an educational choice for Australia families. Her books and websites aim to demystify education, gently deschooling families so that they may meet their children's individual and unique educational and developmental needs. Her honesty, insights and wealth of experience continues to bring hope, reassurance and confidence to families.

Home education is a legal alternative to school education in Australia. State and Territory governments are responsible for regulating home education and have different requirements, however home educating families are able to develop curriculum and learning programs to suit the individual needs of their children.

Poetry Collection

Poems can make us slow down and think, they can make us feel happy or sad, they tell us about ourselves and the world in which we live. Poetry is a special way of sharing our thoughts and feelings with others. Did you know that all songs are poems!

If you've written a song or a poem and want to share it with others we'd love to publish it on our Kids Pages. Poems can be long or short, funny, sad, about anything subject at all! Please find out how to send us your poems in our Submission Guidelines.

Jessica, age 13, writes...
"I hope you like these poems."

The Sunflower

A Golden Lady in the sunshine,
Standing firm and tall.
Smiling,Smiling,
Smiling at the sunshine.
I see her glowing,
her yellow dress flowing.
It starts to rain,
everything dull except the Golden Lady.
She cheers me up when I am sad.
She helps the birds and bees.
She also gives lady bugs their dinner.
The Golden Lady dances,
dances gracefully to the song of the wind.
The raindrops give the Golden Lady water,
and the sun feeds her.
The next day she withers away,
But aaah!
Whats this?
She has left something,
It's her offspring!
I plant them and the offspring is,
The Lady,
The Golden Lady.

The Waterfall

Always crying,
Weeping,Weeping,
Searching for freedom like a bear in a cage.
Her tears crystal clear
like the night sky filled with twinkling stars.
Whenever she speaks,
it flows,bubbly,clear.
One day she will find her home.
The Sea,
Her destiny.

Birds

Singing songs so beautifully,
Every song they sing on perfect key.
Gliding through the air,
Mother birds looking after her babies with care.
A birds life is so care-free.
Flying all day and living in a tree.
Beautiful colours of red, orange and green.
A Princess P arrot is a Queen,
A Rosella is lovable and bright,
and budgies are loud and also light.
Birds are a pet you can have a friendship together,
They are birds with a long tail feather.

Spring

What season is it outside?
It's warm and fresh,it's spring I cried!
The birds are singing, the flowers are blooming,
The smell of Spring is also looming.
The beautiful sun is making me warm,
Our vegetetables are growing,
especially my corn.
As I walk down the garden all by myself,
All by myself...
It's friendly out here,
I don't think it's queer.
I don't want to leave I say to myself
I say to myself.....

Barbie

Plastic arms,
with no sense of charms.
Plastic hair,
which needs ALOT of care.
Barbies always smile,
I think they're an alien from an X-file.
Ken thinks barbie is a chick,
if they love each other any longer it will make the world sick!
Barbie s just an alien from mars,
Always being perfect with her pink little cars.

I'm sorry and apologise to all barbie lovers.

Friends

Friends are ther to lend a hand,
They can cheer you up when you're sad,
They can pick you up when you're down.
You can always depend on friends,
They can be with you through,
the sad times,
bad times,
and good times.
You can always count on friends.

The River Alive

Water flowing down stream
Salmon swimming upstream
All I hear is the river coming alive.
Birds tweeting so beautifully
The river dances all the way to the sea.
With the music of the wind
following behind.

Dogs

Howling by the moonlight
White fangs with a hard bite.

Skinny and fat they're all adorable,
Their worst enemy is the Tabby Cat??

Long fur or short fur
you choose
Nothing to loose.
Black wet nose,
is as black as the night sky.

They have no toes
but paws that leave marks
EVERYWHERE!

They're dogs.........

Man's (and woman's) Best Friends.

Welcome to the world of home education - learning without school! We officially began educating our three children in 1985, when our eldest was five years. In truth, we had helped them learn what they need to learn as they grew and explored and discovered this amazing world since the moment they were each born! I am a passionate advocate of allowing children to learn unhindered by unnecessary stress and competition, meeting developmental needs in ways that suit their individual learning styles and preferences. Ours was a homeschooling, unschooling and natural learning family! There are hundreds of articles on this site to help you build confidence as a home educating family. I hope that your home educating adventure is as satisfying as ours was!
