On a Mission!
by Beverley Paine
Just realised I don't have a job or a career, I have a mission. And I've been living that mission for more than three decades. That's awesome. Would like this feeling of contentment with that to last.
Deschooling myself is a slow and clunky process. I was trained to think that I needed a job and a career to be a worthwhile person. Motherhood became my career - yuck! Being a mother isn't a career , never was. Home education became my career - yuck! Same thing: it's not a career. Writing became a career - double yuck! Writing is the way I express myself, it's not a career, it's an essential aspect of my personality.
These things for me were vocations, things I was drawn to do, had to do, had no choice but do because doing them 'is' me. I was lucky to realise early in the doing of them that I could do them the way I needed to do them, that I didn't really have any other choice: doing them is an expression of who I am. So I lose track and become discontented when I think motherhood and home education and writing are jobs or careers. I fall into depression because I think that I need to perform in some way to achieve recognition and acceptance from others in these areas. I devalue these areas of my life, I devalue myself, when I fall into this conditioned way of thinking.
Mission. Work, actions, life made meaningful. Me.

Together with the support of my family, my aim is to help parents educate their children in stress-free, nurturing environments. Welcome to the World of Home Education
and Learning without School!
We began educating our children in 1985, when our eldest was five. In truth, we had helped them learn what they need to learn since they were born. I am a passionate advocate of allowing children to learn unhindered by unnecessary stress and competition, meeting developmental needs in ways that suit their individual learning styles and preferences. Ours was a homeschooling, unschooling and natural learning family! There are hundreds of articles on this site to help you build confidence as a home educating family. We hope that your home educating adventure is as satisfying as ours was! Beverley Paine

Home education is a legal alternative
to school education in Australia.
State and Territory governments are responsible
for regulating home education and have different
requirements, however home educating families
are able to develop curriculum and learning programs
to suit the individual needs of their children.
