My adult children think it was the bees knees to have the freedom to learn in ways that suited their needs, personalities and preferences when they were kids. I am passionate about helping you feel okay, strong and committed to your choice to home educate your children because I want you to experience the same joy I feel now.
Since I've left Facebook my e-Newsletter, The Educating Parent, it is the main way I stay in touch with all my friends. I loved being a member of the very many groups I belonged to and missed the opportunity to chat with friends and help them answer their questions and generally reassure them that yes, home education is challenging, but it's also immensely rewarding and definitely worth sticking at it!
Please use the newsletter to touch base with me and ask those questions, pick my brains, put a question out there for other readers to answer, etc - everything you'd do on a home educating support group. I'll address those questions either personally by email or through the newsletter - it's your choice, just tell me when you email if you to share the answer with our growing Educating Parent community.
The newsletter is also an opportunity for me to let you know about recent posts to The Educating Parent. I'll let you know about any new eBooks I've uploaded to Always Learning Books, the publishing business I began many years ago and is now owned and managed by my daughter, April Jermey, a stay-at-home working home educating mum. Together we want to help make home educating more rewarding and enjoyable by removing the everyday stress that unnecessary worry add to our days. My home educating days are over but April's are just beginning: being home educated herself gives her a bit of a head start but when it comes to her own children it's a whole new ball game! And though I've a life-time of experience to draw on, I am really happy that I still learning how to help children learn and how to meet their complex and ever-changing needs. This is an awesome journey!
You might be asking, "Why did you leave Facebook?" It was incredible and very popular, but Facebook's increasing commercialisation and drive to sell the content that we as users create as our fingers dance across the keyboard deeply disturbed me. They own the words we type and the images that we upload. That's what we agree to when we open our Facebook accounts and participate in products Facebook provides. I don't want my comments tracked by cyber-robots so that some unknown company can target me as a potential consumer. I don't want that kind of one-side open-ended agreement with a company that purports to be about building social communities but is actually all about profits for its shareholders. So that's why I've ditched Facebook and created this newsletter. It's not as handy, but it's a heck of a lot more personal and private! We've kept one foot in the door - our The Educating Parent Facebook page is there to help families find this site!
Anyway, thanks for having read this far! And thanks for subscribing to my newsletter. You can opt out at any time by hitting the 'unsubscribe' link at the bottom of each email. But if you find my ramblings reassuring and useful, don't forget to tell your friends about The Educating Parent.
